Sermon - January 15, 2017 - Epiphany: Jesus appears as the Savior of the Nations

The sermon for Epiphany Sunday, January 15, 2017. The sermon text is based on Matthew 2:1-12.

 

Today's Focus: Joy to the world, the Lord is come!  This morning we gather for the Festival of Epiphany which celebrates Jesus as Savior of the whole world.  The Festival of the Epiphany of our Lord is the second oldest festival celebrated by the Church, dating to the second century.  The Eastern Church commemorates the birth of Christ on this day, but the Western Church remembers it as the "Gentile Christmas" and celebrates Jesus who appeared as the Word for the world.
