Sermon - December 8, 2019 - It's All About Us

The sermon for Sunday,December 8, 2019, is based on Romans 15:4-6

 

Today's Focus: Prepare the way with sincere repentance.  When Jesus came into the world the first time, God raised up John the Baptist to prepare people to meet him.  John preached a powerful message of repentance, and it brought about a renewal of life.  People ran to Jesus, the bringer of salvation.  Jesus is going to come into the world a second time, and we are to prepare the same way-with sincere repentance.  For the unrepentant, Christ's return will mean an eternity of sorrow.  But for God's repentant people, Christ's return will mean an eternity in his glorious kingdom.

Sermon - December 1, 2019 - "Wake Up!"

Today's Focus: Prepare, for the Lord will come again unexpectedly.  There are no surprise with Christmas.  We know exactly when December 25th will arrive.  We can calculate the very minute.  That is not the case with Christ's second coming.  We have no idea when it will take place.  It could be ten-thousand years away.  It could be in the next ten minutes.  But, God kept his promise to send Christ the first time; therefore, we have confident faith he will keep his promise to send Christ again.  Because we do not know when that will be, we must always be prepared.

Today's Focus: Give thanks to the Lord!  Happy Thanksgiving!  Today we pause to give praise and thanks to our gracious God.  In our readings, Moses will encourage us to remember God's blessings in the past (Deuteronomy 8:10-18), Paul will share with us the secret to living a content life (Philippians 4:10-20), and Jesus will prove that he can provide for our every earthly and eternal need (Luke 17:11-19).  Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his loves endures forever.

Today's Focus: You will be with me in paradise!  On this last Sunday of the Church Year, we rejoice in the fulfillment of God's plan for our salvation through Christ our King.  We also rejoice because Christ our King reigns-the king who once came as a sacrifice; the king who still shepherds us day by day; the king who one day will conquer all our enemies.  Rejoice in his reign and look forward to the day when every knee will bow with us before the King of kings and Lord of lords!

Today's Focus: Have you ever won a contest? A prize? A sporting event? An award? What was the feeling like?  Imagine the greatest feeling of victory that you can. Now imagine that feeling doubled in intensity and joy. This might help us imagine just a bit the feeling of victory that we will have in heaven-forever united with every other saint, or believer in Jesus, in victory. But we do not need to wait for heaven to start celebrating. In this sermon, we will celebrate the Saints Triumphant-all those believers who have gone before us into heaven, those who believe in Jesus now, and the victory that is ours forever.  Come and worship your God, and join in the celebration!
