The sermon for Sunday, April 30, 2017. The sermon text is based on Luke 24:13-35
Today's Focus: Hope Restored. The certain hope of eternal life with God is founded on the sacrificial death and victorious resurrection of Christ. God had promised this ancient hope in the Garden at the dawn of time. God had carried this ancient hope in his Word through the ages. How did the disciples fail to anticipate the resurrection? How did the teachers and people of Israel fail to see the Messiah God had promised and delivered? They let their wants and cultural expectations color their view of Scripture, and hope was lost. But God restored this ancient hope by raising Jesus from the dead and pointing his people back to his promises.

Today's Focus: In the face of doubt, Jesus gives us proof and peace. To the doubting disciples, he gave certain proof that led to certain peace. Through his Word and sacraments, Jesus gives the same proof to all people of all time. "Peace be with you," is our Lord's message to us today. He is risen! He is risen indeed!.

The sermon for Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. The sermon text is based on 1 Corinthians 15:19-26.
Today's Focus: O how dark things looked for Jesus and His followers on Good Friday, as Jesus hung on the cross and died. How dark must have been the mood of the disciples all through Saturday. But then came Sunday and everything changed. Everything! For Jesus rose! Now the darkness of gloom and despair was replaced with the "light" of victory and joy! As Easter changed everything for them, so it changes everything for us. Jesus has risen to free us from the clutches of sin, death and the devil - a freedom that will never be taken away! Christ has risen! He is risen indeed!

This Evening's Focus: This evening we focus on the intense love of our Savior - a love that compelled Him to die on the cross so that we might have life now and forever with Him. We will meditate on Jesus' seven statements from the cross and discover the peace and comfort that each statement offers us. Come celebrate the great love of your Savior this Good Friday!

The sermon for Maunday Thursday, April 13, 2017. The sermon text is based on 1 Corinthians 11:23-28
Today's Focus: Maunday Thursday derives its name from the words Jesus spoke to his disciples on this evening: "A new command I give you: Love one another" (John 13:34). The Latin translation for "command" in this passage is "mandatum", where we get "Maundy" from. On Maundy Thursday, Christ gave a mandate to his followers - to love one another as he has loved us. He demonstrates the full extent of his love by humbly washing his disciple's feet and by feeding them his very flesh for their salvation. Clearly, Christ loves us more than life. Reconciled to God through the flesh and blood of Christ, we are empowered to follow his command to love one another.

Today's Focus: From his birth to his death, Jesus demonstrates remarkable humility. He is King of kings. And yet when born into our world, he did not have a golden crib, but only a manger. When he rides into the royal city of Jerusalem as a king, it is not on a stallion, but a little donkey foal. And when he, as Lord of Lords, mounts his position of authority, it is not a throne, but a cross. Why would one so great be so unspeakable humble? And what is there for us to learn in his humility? Come and listen to His Word today!

Today's Focus: Repent: Turn to Jesus; When You Face Temptations. Every time we pray the Lord's Prayer, we ask that God would "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." This morning we will be encouraged to look to His strength, not ours, to stand strong in times of temptation. We will be directed to His amazing grace and free forgiveness when we succumb to temptation, and to His certain promises to strengthen us when we feel weak.

Today's Focus: Repent: Turn to Jesus; He Changes Your Life. Our faith in Christ's blood has saved us. Our faith in Christ's blood has changed us. We are given a new status: forgiven, chosen, and holy to God. We are given a new purpose: to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light. In faith, turn to Jesus; he changes everything about your life now and forever! All through Jesus. Always through Jesus. Only through Jesus.

The sermon for The Third Sunday in Lent, March 19, 2017. The sermon text is based on Luke 23:32-34
Today's Focus: Repent: Turn to Jesus; He Longs to Forgive You. There is no sin you commit that Jesus' sacrifice does not remit. There is no guilt that you bear that Jesus' cross does not lift. There is no past that Jesus did not die to forgive and forget. Jesus' atonement for the sin of the world never changes! It is always accomplished, always real, always free, always yours through the gift of faith in his blood! So turn, in faith, to Jesus; he longs to forgive you!
