Today's Focus: The Holy Trinity.  In the church year, this Sunday is know as "Trinity Sunday".  It is a rather appropriate Sunday for a congregation which is named Trinity Lutheran Church!  But what does the term "Trinity" or "Triune" really mean?  And how does the truth of the Trinity effect our lives?  God will give us answers to those questions today.  We will see that the Triune God is greater than we can comprehend in terms of both His power and His love.  Come and celebrate the truths of the Trinity!

Today's Focus: The Day of Pentecost.  God promised "I will pour out my Spirit."  God's Old Testament people celebrated the gathering of the harvest at the Festival of Weeks, which took place fifty days after the Passover Festival.  On the fiftieth day, God sent the promised Counselor, the Holy Spirit, on the day we call "Pentecost" (greek for "fifty").  This day marked the birthday of the New Testament Church and celebrates the harvest of souls won by the Son and gathered by his servants empowered by his Spirit.

Today's Focus: He lives to rule all  things for the Church.  The final image on sees of a person can often become emblazed in one's memory.  Today, we will see the final image that Jesus gave to his disciples on earth.  It is not an image of defeat.  Instead, it is one of incredible victory, power and love as he ascends to heaven.  It is this image of love that binds us together in the Christian unity and love which we celebrate this morning.  May the love of God unite us as we worship him!

Today's Focus:.Love each other.  Jesus has risen indeed!  That truth not only changes our lives forever, but also changes our lives for now.  The risen Savior lives in us through faith and now empowers us to live for others.  The Savior that lives in our hearts produces visible results in our lives, especially in the ways that we lay down our lives to do what is best for others.  Celebrate his love for you today, and be empowered to share that love with others!

Today's Focus:.I am the Vine, you are the branches.  The image of our Savior as a vine, and we the branches connected to him, is the focus of our worship today.  In this picture we see how closely he desires to be connected to us.  Through his Word, we receive what is needed for our faith to grow and produce fruits in service to him and those around us.

Today's Focus: Good Shepherd Sunday.  Author George Smith says:  "In such a landscape as Judea, where a day's pasture is thinly scattered over an unfenced tract of country, covered with delusive paths, frequented by wild beasts, and rolling off into the desert, the shepherd and his character are indispensable.  On some high moor, across which at night the hyenas howl, when you meet him, sleepless, far sighted, weather-beaten, armed, leaning on his staff, and looking out over his scattered sheep, every one of them on his heart, you understand why the shepherd of Judea sprang to the front in his people's history; why they gave his name to their kings; why Christ took him as the type of self-sacrifice."

 

On Good Shepherd Sunday we see the selfless love of our Good Shepherd, our Savior Jessus.  He is risen indeed!

Today's Focus: Hope Restored.  The certain hope of eternal life with God is founded on the sacrificial death and victorious resurrection of Christ.  God had promised this ancient hope in the Garden at the dawn of time.  God had carried this ancient hope in his Word through the ages.  How did the disciples fail to anticipate the resurrection?  How did the teachers and people of Israel fail to see the Messiah God had promised and delivered?  They let their wants and cultural expectations color their view of Scripture, and hope was lost.  But God restored this ancient hope by raising Jesus from the dead and pointing his people back to his promises.

Today's Focus: Peace Drives Away Doubt.  In the face of doubt, Jesus gives us proof and peace.  To the doubting disciples, he gave certain proof that led to certain peace.  Through his Word and sacraments, Jesus gives the same proof to all people od all time.  "Peace be with you," is our Lord's message to us today.  He is risen!  He is reisen indeed!

Today's Focus: Easter Sunday.  O how dark things looked for Jesus and His followers on Good Friday, as Jesus hung on the cross and died.  How dark must have been the mood of the disciples all through Saturday. But then came Sunday and everything changed.  Everything! For Jesus rose! Now the darkness of gloom and despair was replaced with the "light" of victory and joy!  As Easter changed everything for them, so it changes everything for us.  Jesus has risen to free us from the clutches of sin, death and the devil-a freedom that will never be taken away.  Christ is risen!  He is reisen indeed!
