Sermon - December 24, 2016 - God's Greatest Gift...for you.

The sermon for Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016. The sermon text is based on Luke 2:8-20

 

This evening's Focus: Before you had bought one present this Christmas or any Christmas, God decided to give you the greatest gift that could be given.  He came into this world of sin and death, and by his perfect life and death on the cross, purchased for you the gifts of forgiveness and eternal life.  On this night we ponder how he came to our earth, and the wonderful free gifts he brings to us as we contemplate sections of Luke chapter 2.  In the words of the shepherds, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about!".

Sermon - December 18, 2016 - Prepare the Way, Immanuel Comes!

The sermon for the Fourth Sunday in Advent, December 18, 2016. The sermon text is based Matthew 1:18-25

 

Today's Focus: In the Bible, names often have special meaning. In the book of Isaiah, the prophet foretold that the coming Messiah would be named "Immanuel". That name means "God is with us". How meaningful! It describes perfectly what we find in Bethlehem's manger: God, wrapped in flesh, that he might dwell with us in our home. And because of what Immanuel did in his death and resurrection, we can joyfully look forward to the day when we will go to dwell with him in his home.

Today's Focus: Rejoice! Jesus comes for you! The third Sunday of Advent, marked by a pink candle in the Advent wreath, is traditionally known as "Gaudete" or "Rejoicing" Sunday. At this part of the season, we can feel Christmas quickly approaching, therefore our anticipation and rejoicing are raised. This morning, we will be encouraged to rejoice even in the face of suffering, for our Savior promises to deliver us. Rejoice and worship Him!

Sermon - December 4, 2016 - Prepare the Way With Sincere Repentance

The sermon for the Second Sunday in Advent, December 4, 2016. The sermon text is based Matthew 3:1-12.

 

Today's Focus: Prepare the way with sincere repentance. When Jesus came into the world the first time, God raised up John the Baptist to prepare people to meet him. John preached a powerful message of repentance, and it brought about a renewal of life. People ran to Jesus, the bringer of salvation. Jesus is going to come into the world a second time, and we are to prepare the same way - with sincere repentance. For the unrepentant, Christ's return will mean an eternity of sorrow. But for God's repentant people, Christ's return will mean an eternity in his glorious Kingom.

Sermon - November 27, 2016 - Prepare, For the Lord Will Come Again Unexpectantly

The sermon for the First Sunday in Advent, November 27, 2016. The sermon text is based Romans 13:11-14.

 

Today's Focus: Prepare, for the Lord will come again unexpectantly. There are no surprises with Christmas. We know exactly when December 25th will arrive. We can calculate the very minute. That is not the case with Christ's second coming. We have no idea when it will take place. It could be ten-thousand years away. It could be in the next ten minutes. But God kept his promise to send Christ the first time; therefore, we have confident faith he will keep the promise to send Christ again. Because we do not know when that will be, we must always be prepared.

The sermon for Thanksgiving, November 24, 2016. The sermon is based on three separate meditations from the following texts: Deuteronomy 8:10-18; Luke 17:11-19; Philippians 4:10-20.

 

Today's Focus: Give thanks to the Lord! Happy Thanksgiving! This morning we pause to give praise and thanks to our gracious God. In our readings and meditations, Moses will encourage us to remember God's blessings in the past, Paul will share with us the secret to living a content life, and Jesus will prove that he can provide for our earthly and eternal needs. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever!

Today's Focus: You will be with me in paradise! On this the last Sunday of the Church Year, we rejoice in the fulfillment of God's plan for our salvation through Christ our King We also rejoice because Christ our King reigns - the king who once came as a sacrifice; the king who still shepherds us day by day; the king who one day will conquer all our enemies. Rejoice in his reign and look forward to the day when every knee will bow with us before the King of kings and Lord of lords!

Sermon - November 13, 2016 - Saints Triumphant

The sermon for the Third Sunday of End Times, November 13, 2016. The sermon text is based Hebrews 12:1-3. The theme this week is "Saints Triumphant".

 

Today's Focus: Have you ever won a contest? A prize? A sporting event? An award? What was the feeling like? Imagine the greatest feeling of victory that you can. Now imagine that feeling doubled in intensity and in joy. This might help us imagine just a bit the feeling of victory that we will have in heaven - forever united with every other saint, or believer in Jesus, in victory. But we do not need to wait for heaven to start celebrating. In worship this morning, we will celebrate the Saints Triumphant - all those believers who have gone before us into heaven, those who believe in Jesus now, and the victory that is ours forever. Come and worship your God, and join in the celebration!

Sermon - November 6, 2016 - The Last Judgment

The sermon for the Second Sunday of End Times, November 6, 2016. The sermon text is based on 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10. The theme this week is "The Last Judgment".

Today's Focus: As the church year comes to a close, four Sundays are dedicated to the "End Time" - the time in the future when Jesus will triumphantly come back to take his people to eternal glory. This Sunday we look at one aspect of that time: the Last Judgment. The words "Last Judgment" or "Judgment Day" often make many uneasy. Many may wonder what that day will be like. They may wonder what God will do with them on that day. Will they join him in heaven, or suffer forever in hell? Today we will see that God's children have nothing to fear on the Last Day. In fact, covered with the perfect life of Jesus, they have one thing to look forward to: an eternity of peace with their loving God.

Sermon - October 30, 2016 - Reformation Sunday

The sermon for Reformation Sunday, October 30, 2016. The sermon is composed of five sermonettes centering on how God's saving grace was brought forward through Martin Luther and the Reformation. Each section is based on the five parts of the Luther Seal.

The Black Cross - "I believe that I am a sinner" - Romans 3:19-20

The Red Heart - "I believe in the forgiveness of sins" - Romans 1:16-17

The White Rose - "I believe that God has given me peace" - John 14:27

The Blue Sky - "I believe in better things to come" - Phiippians 3:6-7

The Golden Ring - "I believe in life eternal" - Revelation 21:1-5

Today's Focus: Today, as every Sunday, we worship God. We do not worship Martin Luther. However, on this day we pause to give special thanks to God for using Martin Luther to proclaim the message of the Bible during spiritually dark times: that we are saved by God's grace alone, this is ours through faith alone, and we can be certain of it in the Bible alone. To further illustrate the good news of God's love, Martin Luther designed a family seal. In worship this morning, we will look at the symbolism and Scriptural references behind that seal, and celebrate the full and free love of our God. Come, let us worship the Lord!
