Today's Focus: Christians serve God above all. God calls the believer to First Commandment faith that serves him above all. In light of this command, we rightly confess the many times we have put ourselves before him. But cleansed from our sins by Jesus who perfectly followed his Father's will, we are empowered by the gospel to fear, love and trust in God above all things. Come and worship Him!

Today's Focus: Christians do their duty.  It is the believer's duty to abstain from sin, give forgiveness, and serve our neighbor.  It is a privilege to do our duty as Christians, but we are weak.  The Church, therefore, prays that God would make us ready to do with a cheerful heart that which pleases him.

Today's Focus:  Christians love the lost like Christ.  The believer loves the lost like Christ.  The righteous live by faith; yet how easy it is for the righteous to slip into self-righteous judgment of other sinners, forgetting the grace that has been shown them.  Today Christ calls us to love the lost like he does and rejoice over every sinner that "once was lost, but now is found."

Sermon - August 21, 2016 - The Door to Heaven is Narrow

The sermon for the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost, August 21, 2016.  The sermon text is based on Luke 13:22-30.  The theme this week is: "The Door to Heaven is Narrow".

Today's Focus:  The door to heaven is narrow. The way to heaven is narrow. Mere outward attachment to the family of God is no sufficient - only through faith in Christ can we enter heaven. The door is narrow and Christ commands us to make every effort to enter it. Although the door is narrow, it is open to all, and believers will come from all nations to behold the glory of the Lord.
